Comments Task B

Point of view: Dr. Chan, thank you for reminding me to be grateful for my amazing good health. Thank you for reminding me of how fortunate I have been. Thank you for reminding me to enjoy every day I have. I am well into my late 50s. I'm starting to feel aches and am realizing that I can no longer do certain things - not without modifications. Thank you for reminding to count my blessings. Position: Offering "care" that prolongs suffering and is not curative is not only unethical, but also a waste of resources.  If you are having difficulty with having a conversation or you cannot do it well you should have a palliative care specialist do it for you.  It is so much more than communication.  It is providing interventions to alleviate death anxiety along with providing physical, emotional and spiritual comfort.  Palliative care should be introduced at the time of diagnosis as a normal part of cancer treatment. Argument: Thank you. Quality rather than quantity...
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS.  "My patients are dying. But it’s their right to keep going" INTRODUCTION:   “ Dr. Chan, please, please keep me alive a little longer and God will surely bless you.” I am watching a 68-year-old man fall apart. He has been through five different types of chemotherapies, yet his kidney cancer continues to grow and metastasize, spreading to different organs. He now sits hunched in his wheelchair. With his worsening diarrhea, and sores in his mouth, he no longer eats with pleasure. Sleeping a few hours without pain has become a luxury. POSITION- POINT OF VIEW:   He wants to beat the cancer. He believes what will help him live longer is more chemotherapy.  ARGUMENT: Aggressive treatments, such as more chemotherapy, are not going to cure these two patients. Therapy aimed at controlling their symptoms will help them live their remaining days more comfortably. Meanwhile, we still struggle with one of the primary challenges o...
Stephen Brookfield. In his speech, he stated that someone who thinks critically needs to be able to identify assumptions behind thinking and actions and check the accuracy and validity of those assumptions. On the other hand, people that think creatively is able to view ideas and practices from multiples points of view. Also, those are able to communicate learning throught a variety of forms like usinf visual, symbolic or audios. After all, for him some characteristics of both kind of thinking are: * Both are based on evidence and experience that can be justified. * Assumptions has to be check by proving their validity * View from different perspectives *Use multiples modalitites to put them in action During the speech, Stephen also talked about the kinds of assumptions, such as: *CAUSAL *PRESCRIPTIVE *PARADIGMATIC
REFLECTIONS Emotional self-management.  * The emotions that are most difficult for me to manage when someone does not agree with me are anger, frustration and impotence. Anger is an emotion that is very easily reflected on me and is notorious. Sometimes people hurt my feelings by doubting about my arguments. However, I understand that each person has a different opinion or point of view and is free to defend it. I feel frustrated when I am not able to make my arguments believable and trusted by the people who listen to them. Finally, impotence is difficult to handle because I prefer to avoid arguing with people who do not agree with me, but I do not allow that my arguments are rejectable completely. *I deal with this by not taking this too personal and let that people believe what they want as long as they do not try to change my mind. I consider, that being an open-minded person allow me to deal with those emotions easily because I defend my arguments in a respecful wa...
